The Arizona Daily Sun in cooperation with Coconino County, which oversees emergency response and preparedness planning, is proud to present the sixth annual Emergency Preparedness Guide.
This year, we are especially pleased to bring you this essential resource earlier in the year, providing ample time to prepare before peak fire season arrives. With the realities of wildfire, flooding, extreme heat and winter storms in northern Arizona, early planning is not just wise -- it's necessary.
Coconino County’s awe-inspiring landscapes offer residents and visitors unmatched year-round experiences. But with that beauty comes risk. Natural disasters in this region can strike swiftly and with little warning, making awareness, preparedness and proactive planning critical for safety and resilience.
With this past winter leaving Flagstaff and its surrounding areas well below the average snowfall for the first time in the past few years, Coconino County officials, the National Weather Service and Arizona Public Service are approaching the summer months with caution. Many of northern Arizona's snowpack locations measured near record lows in February and March, with continued dry conditions putting the region at risk for a significant wildfire season.
Emergencies can happen at any time, anywhere. This guide is designed not only to inform and educate but also to remind us that preparedness is a shared responsibility. By working together -- as neighbors, communities and local agencies -- we can better protect our families, our homes and the natural wonders that define northern Arizona.
Inside, you'll find practical tips, updated emergency contacts and the latest guidance to help you respond effectively to any crisis.
The Arizona Daily Sun and Coconino County thank you for investing time in preparedness -- and with that, we invite you to explore the 2025 Emergency Preparedness Guide.
