NICOLE’S IMPOSSIBLY POSSIBLE IDEAS

Nicole's Impossibly Possible Ideas: Impossible democracy

May Day rally for democracy

On Feb. 9, my husband and I, with a couple of our friends, went to see Reverend Horton Heat at Yucca North. I don’t know the Reverend well, but I’m usually game for any show in Flagstaff. I prefer opening bands anyway. So much so that I broke my wrist dancing in the mosh pit to the opener for Built to Spill a couple of years ago.

The Reverend Horton Heat show was particularly good because it was the first gathering that I had been to since the inauguration. I had been somewhat afraid of hanging out with people. I felt disaffected from my community. Who were these people who voted for someone so basically cruel? Who would take away the best of our country and replace those good things with billionaires and artificial intelligence? The things lost -- aspiring Americans, firefighters, National Parks, the Endowment for the Arts, the Endowment for the Humanities, the Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration?
