Ready, Set, Go! is an all-hazard, nationwide evacuation program adopted by the 15 Arizona Sheriffs that educates residents about proactive measures to take before an emergency and actions to follow when their communities are threatened.

READY means prepare now

We are always in a state of ready. Be aware of the hazards that can threaten your community and take steps to prepare. In Coconino County, Arizona, the biggest threat is wildfire. Some things you can do now to be ready for wildfire season include signing up for Coconino County and other local emergency notifications, knowing your evacuation zone, building an emergency go-kit, creating your family emergency plan and creating defensible space around your home and property.

An emergency go-kit should include anything you think you may need to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Start with the five P’s: people and pet supplies, prescriptions, papers, personal needs and priceless items. An emergency go-kit should contain everything your family, including pets, might need if you have to evacuate quickly and sustain yourselves for at least 72 hours. Any bag or box will work, the important thing is that all of your items are together and ready to go! Be sure to include a family emergency plan that outlines evacuation routes, responsibilities, communication methods, sheltering options and a reunification location in case your household is separated.

SET means be alert

There is significant danger in your area. You should grab your emergency go-kit and place it by the door or in your car. Keep in mind unique needs for your family, pets, and livestock. If you feel like you should start evacuating before you receive an official GO notice, then do so. Make sure to remain aware of the latest news and information from public officials through alerts, websites and official social media sites. Know that this might be the only notice you receive if conditions rapidly change. Be SET to GO.

GO means evacuate!

There is an imminent and life-threatening danger in your area. You should evacuate immediately. There is no extra time to pack a go-kit, you only have time to leave the area. Follow instructions from emergency personnel and avoid closed areas. Go to a shelter or a family/friend’s residence outside of the affected area. If you choose to ignore a GO notice, you must understand that emergency services may not be able to further assist you. GO means GO.
