Flagstaff police and firefighters responded to a man who apparently jumped from the second floor of the Flagstaff Medical Center’s parking garage on Tuesday, May 20, around 3 p.m.

The individual involved was confrontational and did not want assistance, an officer at the scene stated, but was receiving medical care following the incident.

Two police vehicles and a fire truck were parked outside the garage on Beaver Street, along with a personal vehicle of unknown origin. From outside the parking garage, the individual could be heard shouting at first responders, evidently in severe psychological distress.

At various times over the span of a few minutes, he shouted, “There is no justice in this country! and “Let me [expletive] talk or knock me out right now! He also urged police, “Shoot me now!

No shots were fired.

One police officer received brief assistance from a Guardian Medical Transport ambulance for blood on his arm before returning to the interior of the garage. The officer did not appear to be wounded.

As the scene grew quieter, a woman emerged from the parking garage escorted by Northern Arizona Healthcare employees and police officers. The woman was crying, but told the officers, “Please take care of him. He didn’t mean any of it.
