The Kaibab National Forest issued a temporary closure order on Wednesday, June 18, for the area surrounding Bill Williams Mountain.
The closure accompanies an increase in fire restrictions on most lands in Coconino County -- which began the same day.
In a press release, the forest’s Williams Ranger District stated that the closure “is due to the area's susceptibility to uncharacteristically severe wildfire and the postwildfire flooding that would potentially result.
The closure area, located south of Williams, encompasses the mountain’s watershed and is bounded by Interstate 40 on the north side, County Road 73 (or South Road) on the east, Forest Road 122 on the south and Forest Road 108 on the west.
