A member of the Boys and Girls Club of Flagstaff has been selected to join the first National Youth Advisory Council for the organization.

Makia Wilson, 17, is one of 12 youth selected to attend the council following an application process.

According to the announcement, Wilson was selected for “exceptional leadership, commitment to service and passion for making a difference in their community.�

She will be traveling to Atlanta in August to meet with the other council members, organization leadership and other partners.

The youth council will advise the leadership of Boys and Girls Clubs of America, representing thousands of members across the country. The role includes advocacy training, public speaking and policy discussions.

“This is an extraordinary accomplishment and a testament to Makia’s continued dedication to leadership, community and creating meaningful change not only for herself, but for her peers as well,� said Mark Cox, the CEO and president of the Flagstaff chapter. “We are thrilled to see one of our own represent not only our club, but the entire state of Arizona, on a national platform.�

Northern Arizona has four clubs serving more than 1,400 youths throughout Flagstaff, Holbrook and Winslow through daily adult mentorship, fun activities and youth development programs. More information is available at .
