After more than 40 years at its location in the Varsity Shopping Center on South Riordan Ranch Road, Peter Piper Pizza is closing its Flagstaff location.

Rumors of the restaurant's closing began on Monday on social media and were confirmed on Tuesday by the company. Peter Piper Pizza’s final day of business in Flagstaff will be Saturday, Aug. 10.

Peter Piper expanded to Flagstaff in 1982, roughly a decade after it debuted in the Valley, just two years after the business expanded to Tucson in 1980 and in the same year the chain added locations in Texas. Offering a location for children’s birthday parties with a range of arcade games and pizza, Peter Piper Pizza opened at the Varsity Shopping Center when it debuted in 1982.

Founded in Glendale in 1973, Peter Piper Pizza celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Previously having more than 120 locations across the Southwestern United States and Mexico, the chain now lists 97 in the United States and another 13 in Mexico.

Flagstaff’s location was one of 41 in Arizona, in addition to 49 in Texas, six in New Mexico and one in California. Peter Piper Pizza expanded to Kansas and Missouri in 2023, but both of those locations recently closed, with Chuck E. Cheese, a sister company to Peter Piper under CEC Entertainment, taking over one of the vacated spaces.
