Takumi Katsuda has been named the Big Sky Conference's tennis player of the week, following a 2-0 weekend for Northern Arizona to open the season in Flagstaff.

Northern Arizona beat both Air Force and UC Riverside, and Katsuda showed out for the Lumberjack in his regular-season debut, going 4-0 in singles and doubles play while clinching both the doubles point with partner Ivan Perisic in a 7-6 (4) final. He went on to clinch the match with his singles victory in comeback fashion, taking down Air Force's Langdon Tingleaf, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Katsuda closed out the weekend with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in single.

Northern Arizona is gearing up to take on Cal Poly and Denver this weekend in Colorado.

Women’s basketball

For the eighth time this season, Northern Arizona claimed the conference's player of the week award, as Sophie Glancey earned it for the fourth time this season and seventh time in her career.

Northern Arizona has collected a program-record eight awards so far this season, passing the previous record of six. Glancey joins Taylor Feldman (3) and Nyah Moran (1) as the other Lumberjacks to claim honors this year.

Glancey last week helped Northern Arizona get wins over Eastern Washington and Idaho to increase the team's win streak to four games and improve to 7-1 in the conference standings.

Northern Arizona hosted Eastern Washington on Thursday night in what served as a rematch to last year's Big Sky tournament championship game. Glancey scored 17 points on 8-for-18 shooting from the field with one 3-pointer, and she also added seven rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.

On Saturday, the Lumberjacks snapped Idaho's six-game winning streak and collected their seventh straight victory over the Vandals. Glancey, an Idaho native, scored 28 points for her eighth 20-plus point performance of the season. She made 12 for 20 from the field and 2 for 2 from the charity stripe. From 3-point range, she went 2 for 2.

On the defensive front, Glancey was dominant with a career-high five blocks. She currently leads the Big Sky with 37 blocks this season, a difference of 15 between first and second place.

Over the week, the junior averaged 22.5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She shot 52.6% from the field, 60% from 3 and did not miss at the free-throw line.

Glancey is the Big Sky preseason MVP after unanimously earning first-team honors in 2023-24. She also leads the Big Sky with 17.8 points per game and field goal percentage (50%) while ranking fourth in rebounds (9.2). Glancey has 11 double-doubles on the year -- which currently ranks eighth nationally. She is also 35th in the country in total blocks, 23rd in field goals made, 31st in total rebounds and 33rd in total points.

Northern Arizona is second in the Big Sky standings with an overall record of 16-5 and 7-1 in conference action. The team hosts Northern Colorado Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Walkup Skydome. 

Swim and dive

Northern Arizona divers competed in California Baptist's Lancer Dive Invite at the start of the month. Graduate student Victoria Knapp earned Western Athletic Conference Diver of the Week honors after her strong performance.

She placed fifth in the 3-meter event, scoring 276.65, and finished ninth in the platform event with a score of 203.80. On the final day, she claimed first place in the preliminary round of the 1m with a score of 295.10 and narrowly finished second in the final round with a score of 287.80.

The women's diving squad is gearing up for the spring edition of the Lumberjack Diving Invite Jan. 30-Feb. 1. Northern Arizona will host San Diego State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and Idaho for the three-day event.
