Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) recognized 44 colleagues at its fourth annual Scholarships and Awards Banquet, which took place earlier this month.

The healthcare system, which includes both Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC) and Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC), has scholarships and awards available to colleagues who are pursuing education, professional development or are paying off student loans. This is offered to both clinical and nonclinical employees.

NAH’s Office of Philanthropy, alongside donors and corporate partners, provided more than $120,000 in funds for these awards. Swire Coca-Cola of Flagstaff was the presenting sponsor for the event.

Here are NAH’s Scholarships and Awards recipients for 2025:

Breanna James, a charge registered nurse (RN) in the VVMC emergency department, received the $1,500 Balouch Family Scholarship. Beth Thomas Schildgen, an RN in FMC’s special care nursery, received the $1,500 Boren Family Healthcare Scholarship.

Candace Denton, a clinical manager in VVMC/Sedona emergency department, and Rebecca Daltroff, a RN navigator in the Sedona Breast Cancer Clinic, both received a $1,000 bill and Debbie Johnson Healthcare Award.

Michaela Wixom, a PCT at FMC, and Travis Johnson, a pharmacy technician at VVMC, received $2,500 Cheney Family Health Care Scholarships.

Alison Smith, a charge RN at FMC, and Amorell Demmert, a nurse education specialist in Flagstaff, received the $1,500 Christensen Nursing Scholarship. Neomie Tsosie, an RN in FMC’s cardiovascular intensive care unit, received the Dean Taylor Healthcare Award of $1,000, while Theresa Crysler, a RN case manager in the Children’s Health Center (CHC), received the $1,000 Dorothy and Ken Lamm Healthcare Award.

Four VVMC employees each received a $1,250 award from the Dawn Carmel Tebelak Memorial Scholarship: ER technicians Christopher Razo and Ryan Contreras, telemetry PCTs Shantel Haught and ICU clinical manager Stacey Healy.

Danielle Rust, a charge RN in FMC’s pre-op postanesthesia care unit, and Joshua Quigley, a senior business intelligence solutions architect, received $1,500 through the Desert Financial Credit Union Healthcare Scholarship.

Carina Cardenas Tapia, an ER technician at VVMC, and Krystalynn Thompson, a patient safety attendant at FMC, received $2,000 Embracing Health Equity Scholarships. CHC clinician dietitian Jillian Peart and billing manager Rebecca Dickerson received the $1,250 Findlay Toyota Healthcare awards.

Senior network engineer Rebecca Skversky received the $2,000 Lorents Family Healthcare Awards, and aesthesia technician Karly Feather received the $1,000 Marjorie and Samuel McClanahan nursing scholarship. Crystal Gonzalez, a charge RN in FMC’s labor, delivery and postpartum department, received the $1,000 Marr Family Scholarship, while Schuyler Reed, a wound care RN at FMC, received the $1,000 Mary M. Byrd Integrative Health Nursing Award.

Jeffery Kester, a charge RN in VVMC’s cath lab, and Marley Guth, RN in VVMC radiology, each received $5,000 from the Meyer Family Nursing Scholarship.

Amy Short, a RN in the NAH Orthopedic and Spine Institute, received the $1,000 R&D Venture Healthcare Award, while Monika Freeman, a clinical manager at FMC, received the $1,000 R&D Venture Healthcare Nursing Award.

The $5,000 Robert and Alice Gagnaire Nursing Award went to Elise Vicente, a clinical manager in Flagstaff.

Athena Menta-Dixon, an anesthesia technician at FMC, and Caitlin Sprouls, a RN in FMC’s pre-op PACU, each received $1,000 from the Roger and Mary Hostetler Healthcare Scholarship. Joshua Meyer, a biomedical technician at FMC, received the $1,000 Sally Day “Bunny� Hanson Memorial Award and Analisa Patrick, the surgical services clinical manager at FMC, received the $1,000 Swire Coca-Cola USA, Flagstaff, AZ Healthcare Scholarship.

Marta Tabaka, a RN in FMC’s operating room, received the $1,2000 Gratitude Award and Fernando Vergara, a certified mental health technician at FMC, received the $2,000 Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation Healthcare Scholarship.

Catherine Surovy, director of behavioral health systems at FMC, and Matt Shaw, battalion chief for Guardian Medical Transport, each received the $1,250 Kushner Family Healthcare Award.

Jemima Harrington, lead respiratory therapist at FMC, received the $1,000 Mike Loven Family Nursing Scholarship, while FMC anesthesia technician Timothy Miller received the $3,000 Mike Loven Family Nursing Scholarship.

Hilary Pe’a, a patient care technician at FMC, received the Terrie Frankel and Fred Shinn Nursing Award for $3,500. FMC pharmacist Jarred Kay claimed the $2,500 UMR Award.

Courtney Parker, a FMC mental health technician, and Tony Joe, a Native healer in FMC’s spiritual care services, each received the $1,250 Zach Stamile Memorial Award.
