The historic Middle Collegiate Church burned was gutted after a fire in the early hours of Dec. 5 spread from a vacant building adjacent to the 128-year old building. Flames shot from the roof destroying its Tiffany stained-glass windows and skylight dome. In past Christmas seasons, the Middle Collegiate Church congregation rejoiced over gospel hymns, carols and soul tunes played on a Steinway piano now only metal and ashes.
