Ludvig Aberg had a brilliant stretch of four birdies and an eagle. He needed every one of them just to keep pace on a remarkable day of scoring at the RSM Classic. The Swedish star shot 61 and has a one-shot lead over Eric Cole. Cole also had a 61. Another shot behind was Mackenzie Hughes. He narrowly missed a 15-foot birdie putt on the last hole and had to settle for a 60. Scoring was so good at Sea Island that nine players shot 63 or lower. Aberg and Cole are going for their first PGA Tour titles.
Alex Noren has a one-shot lead in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship as he goes for his first victory since the 2018 French Open. Noren spent all day at Port Royal trying to stay ahead of Camilo Villegas, Ryan Moore and Matti Schmid. Noren regained the lead with a nice up-and-down from behind the green on the par-5 17th for birdie. And then he saved par from short of the 18th for a 67 to stay one ahead of Villegas. Moore and Schmid were two shots back, and 50-year-old Stewart Cink was four behind.
Alex Noren had a great start and then had to wait until the end for a strong finish. It added to a 66 and a two-shot lead in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. Noren had 11 straight pars after his great start. Two birdies toward the end of his round allowed him to set the tournament record at 15-under 127. He leads by two shots over Ryan Moore, Satoshi Kodaira and Ryan Brehm. Moore is at No. 140 in the FedEx Cup. Two weeks remain for players to finish in the top 125 and keep full PGA Tour cards next year.
Lucas Glover extended his streak of rounds in the 60s to 10 and his lead in the Barbasol Championship to two shots, shooting a 4-under 68 in the second round at Keene Trace. Glover was at 13-under 131, with Adam Long, Vincent Norrman and Daniel Brown his closest pursuers. The 43-year-old Glover switched to a long putter two weeks ago at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and it paid off immediately as he began his run of sub-70 rounds. He tied for fourth that week in Detroit and tied for sixth last week at the John Deere Classic.
