The 4A Conference Coconino Panthers softball team has seen mixed results so far during the West Valley Invitational Tournament in Buckeye as the team gets in work during spring break.Â
The Panthers toppled the 6A Millenium Tigers on Thursday, 10-0, in five innings. Senior Danica Kern went 3 for 4 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI for the Panthers, who scored three runs in both the top of the fourth and fifth innings to enact the mercy rule. Katelynn Yazzie added two RBIs on two hits and a double for Coconino, which holds a regular-season record of 1-1.
Kaitlyn Tso gave up three hits and issued just one walk in the victory, striking out 11 batters along the way. Behind her, the defense committed zero errors.Â
Coconino ran into a scrappy 3A Yuma Catholic ballclub as part of the day's doubleheader, losing 6-0. Norah Kennelly pitched four innings for the Panthers, who totaled seven hits in the loss.
Coconino was set to continue play at the tourney Friday.Â

Coconino suffered a few losses while playing in the Lancer Baseball Classic during spring break in Tucson.
The Panthers had a Friday game slated against 3A Empire.
On Wednesday, 4A Coconino lost to 5A Canyon Del Oro, producing just two hits in the loss coming from senior Emmanual Baiz and junior Fitz Guinan.
Also on Wednesday, Coconino lost to 4A Walden Grove. Abiu Chairez drove in two runs for the Panthers in the top of the fifth on a double. Walden Grove put up five runs in the bottom of the second.Â

Flagstaff's bats have been hot while at the Lancer Baseball Classic.Â
On Wednesday, 4A Flagstaff trounced 6A Rincon in five innings via mercy rule, with five hitters recording two or more RBIs to go with three total extra-base hits from the team. Connor Smith did the most damage with the stick for the Eagles, going 3 for 3 with a run scored, four RBIs and a double.Â
Christian Welker and Cullen Callander also tallied doubles in the Wednesday victory.
Flagstaff cruised past 4A Mica Mountain on Thursday thanks to producing seven runs in the bottom of the third.Â
Also on Thursday, Flagstaff ran away from 5A Cienega in five innings. Callander led the Eagles with three RBIs on his 3-for-3 day at the plate. He also scored two runs and had as many doubles. Teammates Brody Johnson and Will Carpenter contributed triples for Flagstaff, which put up three runs in the top of the first, five in the third and four in the fifth.Â
Carpenter pitched against Cienega, finishing with one earned run allowed on four hits to go with two strikeouts and two walks.Â
Flagstaff was set to play Nogales on Friday.
