Trump, TSMC announce $100B plan to build 5 US factories

WASHINGTON � Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. CEO C.C. Wei announced on Monday the Taiwanese semiconductor company plans to make an additional $100 billion investment in the United States and build five additional chip factories in the coming years.

TSMC announced the plan in a meeting at the White House with President Donald Trump. "We must be able to build the chips and semiconductors that we need right here," Trump said. "It's a matter of national security for us."
