Former Republican South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is running for President of the United States in the 2024 election. Haley is the daughter of Indian immigrants, and became the first female and minority governor of South Carolina. She later was appointed U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations by former President Donald Trump, who she will be running against in 2024. “As U.N. ambassador, Haley developed a reputation as one who worked within the Trump administration and aimed to further its overall foreign policy goals, while also aiming to navigate a pathway for herself, not being afraid at times to stand up to others within the administration with whom she disagreed on policy points, said Associated Press reporter Meg Kinnard who has covered Haley for years.
