Instagram will now default users to private accounts at sign-up if they’re under the age of 16 or under 18 in specific locales. The move comes as part of a bigger set of changes designed to make the app safer for young people. Instagram has said that they will push users under 16 to switch their accounts to private. The company also says that they have developed methods to find accounts that have shown suspicious behavior. Accounts that have show suspicious behavior will be prevented from interacting with young people’s accounts. The changes will initially roll out in the U.S., Australia, France, the UK and Japan, with more to follow.
