A woman who went missing near the Edge of the World camping area on Friday was airlifted from a canyon on Monday afternoon with no serious injuries, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) announced.

Janelle Banda, 32, was initially reported missing late in the evening of June 13 by fellow campers at the southern end of Woody Mountain Road. Sheriff’s deputies who responded to the scene learned that Banda had apparently descended into one of the canyons that divide the forested plateau from the red rock formations below.

The Coconino County Search and Rescue team located Janelle Banda, who was reported missing after last being seen around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13 in the Edge of the World area near the end of Woody Mountain Road, around 12 p.m. on Monday afternoon. After emergency medical care was provided at the scene, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit responded with a Super Huey helicopter and performed a hoist rescue.
