TUBA CITY -- The presiding judge of the Coconino County Superior Court donned his judicial robes in an unfamiliar courtroom as a busy day in March was starting. Behind him, the Great Seal of the Navajo Nation, rendered in black and silver, hung on the wall.

Calling the courtroom to order from behind a laptop, Judge Ted Reed began the first-ever day of Superior Court hearings held in Tuba City. The court’s temporary relocation on Friday, March 21, was one component of Coconino County’s “Justice Bus initiative, which aims to improve access to justice by bringing court hearings and related county services closer to residents outside the county seat of Flagstaff.
