Letter to the Editor: Reader praises education efforts supporting Native students

Letters

The summer bridge and Success Programs for Native American students at both campuses of the Coconino Community College (CCC) are great examples of how federal dollars can assist in the higher education of a traditionally under-resourced community. 365betÌåÓýÔÚÏßÊÀ½ç±â€™s front-page article (CCC revamps for Indigenous student success, 5/31/25) outlines how this innovative project can address the specific needs of a student population.

Having lived on the Navajo and White Mountain Apache nations, I observed students being away from home and separated from a family. It is a unique challenge for these young people from both cultures. Having CCC staff assisting with the transition to college and offering them additional help along the way will make a huge difference to their experience and increase their chances of finishing their associate degree.
