Our family spent three weeks in Brazil over winter break, and every day felt like a highlight reel. We were ecstatic about kayaking on a lake, trying new foods, seeing more than a hundred new species of birds, hiking to waterfalls, watching baby coatimundis in the forest, making and drinking caipirinhas, observing a sloth move at a speed that can only be described as “actually kind of quickly and body surfing during our all-day hike to seven different beaches.
It was hard to choose a favorite experience until we were snorkeling at the beach in Ubatuba. We were in clear, shallow water so we had excellent views of everything we saw, including parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, porcupinefish, and a green turtle. Best of all, we swam directly over about 30 stingrays, which was the highlight of all highlights.
