Forest Service contains wildfire south of Blue Ridge

The Coconino National Forest announced on Wednesday, June 11, that wildland firefighters had halted the forward progress of the 109-acre Leonard Fire burning south of the community of Blue Ridge.

The Leonard Fire, located roughly 6 miles east of the C.C. Cragin Reservoir and 4 miles south of Blue Ridge, was initially reported on Tuesday, June 10. Approximately 50 personnel, including two Hotshot crews and three engine crews, helped conduct backburns and create a perimeter around the blaze. The fire’s spread had stopped by roughly 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
