For Tyrone Johnson, Teagan Martin’s progression from a wide-eyed freshman on varsity into one of the top basketball players in the state traces back to the lessons she learned early on in her Eagles career.
A three-sport athlete, Martin first arrived to Johnson’s Flagstaff High School basketball team before scoring at the Division II state meet in high jump for the school's track and field team as a freshman, later becoming a three-time bronze medalist. She eventually took up flag football, earning All-4A Conference Second Team honors, when the school added the sport for her junior year. As she awaited her opportunities to make a significant impact on the court, Johnson saw her begin as a “shy girl who was willing to work hard into a 4A Conference Second Team selection, a two-time state champion and the Arizona Daily Sun’s 2025 Girls Basketball Athlete of the Year.
