Lowell Observatory researchers study star system to learn more about planetary formation

ALMA Observations

ALMA observations reveal unexpected new ways planets may form circumstellar disks in young multiple star systems. Where the orbits are known, they are included with white lines.

Recent research led by Lowell Observatory found information about how planets are formed through studying the DF Tau binary star system.

The study combined data from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and Keck Observatory. Researchers at Lowell used ALMA imaging and data from other telescopes to analyze the properties of both stars.
