National Weather Service issues red flag warning as high winds arrive Friday in Flagstaff

National Weather Service Bellemont

Thirteen meteorologists work at the National Weather Service center in Bellemont around the clock in eight-hour shifts.

While the forecast for the National Weather Service (NWS) calls for temperatures to finally drop from the high 80s to the high 70s this weekend, the cooler weather will be accompanied by wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph.

Due to the forecast, with the strong winds accompanied by low relative humidity, the NWS office in Bellemont issued a red flag warning on Thursday morning after a fire weather watch was announced on Wednesday. The red flag warning will be in effect from 8 a.m. on Friday to 8 p.m. on Saturday.
