Concluding months of discussions and negotiations on five separate cases, Scott Richard Smith agreed to plead guilty to a pair of felony charges last week in Coconino County Superior Court.
Most notable among the 59-year-old Smith’s cases was his involvement in the abandonment of Sharon Nocki Yazzie’s body near Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument on Feb. 24, 2023. While a charge of tampering with evidence was dismissed as a part of Smith’s July 10 plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to one count of abandonment or concealment of a dead body.
